Signs of Grooming
Set aside some time over the next few days, to observe your child, so you can see if they are demonstrating any of the behaviors below. Signs your child can be groomed, abused, or trafficked include:
Behavioral Changes
Your child will often demonstrate a change in behavior when being groomed…such as avoiding eye contact and other social interaction.
Switching Screens
Your child will switch screens when you come near if they are being groomed.
Volatile Emotions
Your child has become more volatile in their emotions towards yourself, their siblings, teachers, friends, coaches, etc.
Sexualized Language
Your child uses sexual language they wouldn’t typically use because it is not age appropriate.
Possession of New Gifts
Your child has gained possession of new gifts and items which you did not purchase for them.
Withdrawal
Your child seems to grow distant from you and other family members.
Increased Time Online
Your child appears to spend more time away from home than usual.
Being Secretive
Often, your child will become increasingly secretive about the people they interact with while on social media, online, on in person.
Self-Harm
Check to see if your child is hurting themselves by cutting, hitting, or any other form of self-harm.
